This painting is comprised of two distinctly different styles, elements taken from Sir Anthony van Dyck’s portrait of ‘Philippe le Roy, Seignuer de Ravels’ (c.1630), and Henry Fuseli’s illustration ‘Dante in Hell discovers Paolo and Francesca’ (c.1818).
