Fine Art, Art Historical & Creative Writing Blog by Michael Allen Lowe

Welcome to MALcontent

Welcome to MALcontent! This blog is a shameless opportunity for me to wax poetic about my more esoteric thoughts on subjects pertaining to art history and fine art, including production, exhibition, marketing, galleries and museums, collecting, trends, criticisms, aesthetics, art advisory, appraising, conservation, restoration, and current events. In addition, I am pleased to discuss topics concerning creative writing, such as process, methodology, research, editing, formatting, layout, design, illustration, and publication, as well as samples of my recent and current work. I hope to share through this blog some semblance of my ideas on a range of topics freely for the benefit of whoever might take any interest, whatsoever.

Artist

I am originally a fine art painter who was born in Minneapolis in 1979, and a graduate from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2002 with a BFA in painting. I have since exhibited in galleries across the United States and my paintings are collected internationally, presently represented exclusively by the Findlay Galleries (New York City and Palm Beach).

Art Historian & Author

In addition to being a fine art painter, I am also an art historian of eighteenth and early nineteenth-century Western European art. I have an MLitt master of Letters degree in art history from the University of St Andrews in defense of my dissertation, FUSELI & CIPRIANI: Beauty vs Deformity; A Contemplation of Eighteenth-Century British Aesthetics. I also have an Executive Master's Certification in museology from the Ecolé du Louvre, Paris. Apart from this esoteric blog and essays for academia, I have written my debut epic novel of Historical Fiction entitled FUSELI; OR, A VINDICATION OF THE MODERN PROMETHEUS, which I researched throughout Europe and wrote over the course of ten years in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. If there is any interest, I would be pleased to discuss this project from its humble inception to its many revisions, edits, design, layout, and eventual publication in 2025.

Take a Look

Although with this blog I hope to inform more than instruct and perhaps bore least of all, I must come to terms with the fact that I can't expect to do at all just what I have set out to do, and instead, look on with dread at what neither should be read or more rightly should e'er have been written in the first place. But the audacity of self-importance and the determining powers of self-satisfaction are strong. What else can I say?

So read these diatribes if you will, share them if you please, and leave a comment if you must.
